GOOGLE XI 2023

Lori was honored to receive an invitation from Google Xi to participate as one of eight exhibitors at its experiential conference, held in March 2023 at Pier 57 in New York City. Google Xi is a division of Google dedicated to exploring and developing spaces that accommodate the array of differences in our learning styles and perspectives in order to maximize their inclusivity. The opportunity allowed Lori to present her synaesthetic color philosophy in sharper relief, as she translated Ode to Color^® into new sensory dimensions.

THE POWER OF SCENT

Smell is the oldest of our senses. It is intertwined, biologically, with the emotion and memory centers of our brains as part of the limbic system, giving smell a uniquely powerful hold on us. Science tells us that that the scents of our childhood – your mother’s perfume, fresh cut grass, clean laundry, log fires – evoke the most vivid memories and emotions. Surrounding ourselves with these beloved fragrances is a simple, impactful way to improve our moods and create a sense of well-being.

MANE COLLABORATION

Lori was privileged to work with the brilliant minds and noses at the prestigious French fragrance house Mane in developing scents inspired by each color world. Their poetic interpretations were realized in beautiful perfumes that conjured the essence and moods of the corresponding color worlds.

MUSIC

Included in the exhibit were the original musical compositions showcased at the Venice Biennale, as well as the visual presentations developed for that event.

Google’s accomplished chefs prepared meals that masterfully captured three of the color worlds in flavors – Night Shadows, Whisper, and Fragrant Woods – served in spaces that reflected the ambiance of each color world.

ODE TO COLOR TALKS

Rounding out the Google Xi experience, each exhibitor gave a talk about their contributions to the conference. Lori’s focused on how color and texture can influence how we feel in a space and how we therefore function in them. She concluded with some design recommendations to inspire audience members in planning their next events, conferences, and interiors.
