Lori Weitzner Designs Her First Trimming Collection
for Samuel & Sons Passementerie
Lori Weitzner, whose “romantic modern” style has infused upholstery fabrics, wall coverings, rugs, paper goods and fashion accessories, has designed her first passementerie collection. Samuel & Sons, the prominent purveyor of all manner of fine trimmings, commissioned Weitzner to design a lyrical range of new passementerie for their flagship showroom in New York as well as for their representative showrooms nationwide. The collection is discreet, feminine, luxurious and fanciful; “jewelry for interiors” that adds the final unique detail, the finishing touch. Nine dimensional patterns in a total of 106 soft colorways incorporate sophisticated, unusual textures and ornaments such as real pearls and dangling beads. Several of the designs allude to ballet: she nods both to the intricacy of classic costumes and to the movement and rhythm of the dance itself. Offered through designers it will be introduced nationwide January 2007.
The expansive collection is intended for stylish residential and hospitality contexts such as hotels, spas, showrooms and boutiques. Its understated palette of modern, complex neutrals blends easily with any type of decor. Imaginative applications include adornments for draperies, pillows, headboards, lampshades, wallpaper edging, and Venetian blind sashes.
THE PATTERNS
LAUREL
A ribbed tape made opulent with appliquéd beads. Three versions: 1.9"and 3/4" wide tape with beads sewn to the surface in a regular rhythm, and fringe with multiple beads whimsically dangling from one edge, all glisten from subtle tonal variations between bead and ground. 9 hushed, monochromatic colors from Smoked Pearl to Snow.
AJOURÉ
At once flirtatious and formal, Ajouré showcases same-color metallic bugle beads to an embroidered ribbed tape 1.2" wide. A fun decorative accent that lends drama to a quiet space. 7 muted colors range from Silver Dust to Saffron.
OPALINE
Similar to Laurel, Opaline features genuine pearls in an even pattern on a ribbed tape. Two versions: 1 1/2" and 1/2" wide; each adorned with small white pearls. Among the 8 dusty shades are Paper White and Honeysuckle. Additionally, Opaline includes a white on white fringe, dangling with real pearls from one edge. An elegant, minimal design that conjures royal treasures.
BANDEAU
A simple 3/4" ribbon with an embroidered zigzag pattern, in 20 very modern colors that seem to sparkle. The complex palette includes Spun Gold, Henna, Resin and Sea Spray.
PIROUETTE
A 2" border made of double cloth (silk and linen) in a rippling, serpentine weave that causes light to flicker and dance across the surface. Contrasting shiny and matte threads enhance the illusion of motion. Five atmospheric colors from Fog to Moon Dust lend a sense of mystery and romance.
ALLEGRO
The liveliness of Allegro captured in a dimensional weave. 100% linen fabric is pinched into a raised undulating motif, embellishing a 2" tape. 8 nature-inspired hues include Glacier, Wheat and Mist.
ARABESQUE
In this and the related Copelia, a bold, asymmetrical pleat creates luxurious yet unusual dimension and movement. A sumptuous silk and linen blend, 2" wide. 9 subdued shades from Mist to Spice.
COPELIA
The dressiest of the group, Copelia employs a similar textural pleat to Arabesque, but is woven from iridescent taffeta silk, and edged in a contrasting hue. The 2" wide tape comes in 12 theatrical tones from Firebrand to Forest.
